"When I first met Naoise in November 2016, I wasn’t in a bad space, but I was still looking to understand the finer points of my personality. Being an active listener to her Podcast I thought about seeing her long before I took the plunge. Sitting here now I don’t understand why I waited.

Almost one year on, with a lot of baggage removed that I didn’t fully realise was there, things are much lighter in my life. I see me now. Not only do I truly know what will make me happy, she gave me the blueprint in how to get there. She then encouraged every step of the way. That’s a level of service I haven’t encountered anywhere before or since.

The path Naoise takes you on doesn’t just enrich your life but also the lives of everyone around you. A better you for you is a better you for all. So, if you are truly in the pursuit of happiness, I haven’t met a better cheerleader to get you there. Don’t hold back, dive in and enjoy the journey!"

"I contacted Naoise 5 years ago. My son has Aspergers and the issues associated with this meant that his concentration levels were poor and this was reflected in exam results. He was very bright but had difficulty in engaging with his teachers. Naoise was a light at the end of the tunnel in that she recognised immediately that my son had potential and she reassured us that she could help him.  My son worked with both Naoise and a member of her team over this time. The change in my son both academically and as importantly, socially, was marked. My son successfully completed his Leaving Cert and has been offered a place in 3rd level education.His confidence in himself is wonderful. I would have no hesitation in recommending Naoise and her Team. They made the difference!" Irish Parent, September 2017

Exam results and college courses – Where do they lead? Dr Naoisé O’Reilly

2001-09-27Didn't get the results you expected, worked for, deserved or needed in the exams? Worried that you won't get your top choice course? What are your options now? Find an alternative path, one that you will make you happy long term.

Over the years I have seen a few interesting correlations. Students, who don't do mocks do better - go figure? Those who have a backup plan and are relaxed do better. The career path matters more than the study hours put into exams. Having a goal is crucial to success in education.

My pet hate is how many people start a college course which they drop out of or never use as a career. So many students spend so much time in education unhappy.

I believe everything in life happens for a reason - 9 times out 10 if you didn't get the course you had applied for it probably wasn't for you anyway! Hard to believe I know when your 17 but with years experience of working in education I now see things very differently to what I did on my own results day - hard to believe that I was disappointed with over 500 points! I could have done almost any course I wanted in the country that day except the one I had picked - and now I know I never would have been satisfied in life... I did 3 A-Levels after which turned out to be a strangely good decision. It opened up doors later in life for me and it gave me the basis to top my eventual course choice in college. Who would have known?

What I aim to do with our students is to show them their best path, someone recently called me a life balance architect because I provide the road map. Your career should suit your personality and the way you process the world. How do you really learn effectively? What is the best environment for you? What's the best career? What's the easiest route there for you that you will enjoy?

Everyone has to follow their dreams and I would like to see them do this from as early an age as possible, I start at 18 months! The career might be a highly academic one that needs many traditional school subjects or it may be one that is totally outside the box and needs many skills not covered currently in mainstream education. Most of all of should be a journey you enjoy. My simple ingredients for success in education are; do what you love, what you are good at and in a way you enjoy.

This short video I recorded at the Irish Times Higher Options Conference in RDS explains why profiling is so important for Students as early in their education life as possible. It's a few years old now but the same message still stands! Exams, college, and education should lead to a fulfilled life. Not a sense of dejection and a list of mistakes made.

How do you feel when your life is out of balance?

FullSizeRender copy

How do you feel when your life is out of balance?

What are the signs of your life being out of Balance? Here are 7 key areas to look for tells in your life. They cross all areas of your life from work to relationships. How do you react to interruptions? How do you bench mark how well you are doing in yourself? How well do you eat? What is your personal self-worth? How many people truly ask these questions of themselves?

1: The control tell: The easiest way to think about how you feel is how little it takes to tip the scales. You feel emotional, stressed, overwhelmed all the time. This can lead to an unhealthy need to control yourself or others in a desperate need to readdress the balance.

2: The interruption tell: You have a lack of tolerance and patience. The smallest things push you over the edge in an unreasonable overreaction for the level of the challenge. You can also have a lack of tolerance for noise and interruptions. Do you lose it with people in your work or home environment easily?

3: Looking outside tell: There is a constant feeling of being overwhelmed and not knowing where or how to start tasks. Do you always feel as if there is a task hanging over you? You can find it very hard to know what others expect from you. You find yourself constantly seeking validation from others to see if you are doing well enough. You can find your perfectionism crippling. Unable to start tasks in case they are not done well enough.

4: Fitness and diet tell: You either don't do enough exercise or be come obsessed with too much. You control your food and don't have good sleeping patterns. You are always tired and can't get out of bed in the mornings. You wonder "what does sunrise look like" - you never see it! The alarm goes off 10 times in the mornings.

5: The wrong key tell: You feel displaced and opportunities don't seem to arrive or never quite fit to work out. You are always blaming fate. The wrong set of circumstances for you. Besides not being promoted in jobs you can find that you are endlessly looking for a new fit, you never quite settle anywhere. You are constantly upskilling to feel whole. Will the next course fill the void?

6: Relationship tell: You can suddenly withdraw from people and relationships. Ending relationships suddenly without clear thought. Have you stopped talking to your family? Do you seem to have displaced friends from your life recently? Do you just feel disconnected from everyone around you?

7: The searching tell: You are constantly searching to fit in and belong somewhere. Never found anyone that truly gets you. This can lead to an obsession in self-analysis. What's wrong with me? This can become a serial self-help or development search. Do you join many different groups and never stick at any one of them for any length of time?

If these are the tells what are the fixes? How do you counter balance yourself? There are three simple factors;

1: You need to understand your strengths and weaknesses.

2: You need to find a way to express what it really is you want to achieve in life. Set goals.

3: You need to know how to fulfill your dreams or the steps to make them happen. Try to create a road map of realistic steps to these goals for yourself.

Why do the people who come to me crave more balance in their lives? Many people would assume that the aspirations are materialistic. The goals of a new car, a bigger house or to earn more money. It's not that many of these achievements do not happen with greater balance but generally there are 7 key mindsets that people seek.

These are;

1: Happiness is the most important element.

2: Confidence is also a top priority.

3: People strive for self-worth.

4: Respect is huge, both at home and in the workplace.

5: Greater work-life balance. To not always feel tired and jaded.

6: Quality time to spend with the people who matter in their lives and for the other interests in life.

7: Better relationships with partners, children, family and work colleagues.

Everyone that comes to me uses the phrase to me that "they are at cross roads in their life". They want me to siphon their dreams out of them, that have often been forgotten along the way. But most importantly they want a road map of how to get to where they want to be, "I now have a way of moving forward to achieve what I am capable of in life and doing what will make me happier". I always say start with steps. No matter how small they are steps in the right direction. Take control in a positive way. I don't ever tell anyone anything that they don't tell me already knew inside themselves, "Dr. O'Reilly has helped to bring together feelings, thoughts, and plans that have been floating around in my head for some time".

"Dr. Naoisé O'Reilly came to us at a time when our child was feeling overwhelmed and anxious due to school. In an attempt to find solutions, I reached out in the worldwide web and was very surprised to find out how many parents and children were experiencing what we were enduring through Dr. Naoisé's website.  It was then, that I decided to reach out and pour my soul. When I was done, I came to realize how desperate, overwhelmed and hopeful our entire family was. I could only hope to get a reply from Dr. Naoisé, at times I thought I was too hopeful. Dr. Naoisé contacted us shortly. It has been an incredible experience, she worked with myself and of course with my child and helped get over the obstacles at the time. Dr. Naoisé worked with us accommodating different time zones, she is an excellent listener and a resourceful person, she helped restore our family and we are happy to watch our child graduate and move on to the next step in life, college. Our child is smiling again and appreciating life with skills given by Dr. Naoisé, thank you, Dr. Naoisé O'Reilly!! Mother, U.S.A. May 2017
